Hello my dear friends, Happy Sunday ☀️🤗
I recently visited an old Dutch city of Haarlem. The city is just next to Amsterdam. It is famous for it’s historical relevance, the old wind mill, canals around the city. It was a busy port from the 13th Century. As old as from the 13th Century, you can enjoy the city ‘s delightful center place , the simmering Dutch good living and the typical quintessential European experience.
It is this beautiful Haarlem, which gave America’s Harlem, it’s name back when New York was “New Amsterdam”, a dutch colony.
I have tried to capture some scenic beauty of this centuries old city. Hope you will like them.

Thanks for reading.
Much love to all 💐
Thanks for taking us visual ride to Dutch city
Thank you so much 😊
Amazing place, worth visiting!
Thank you so much 😊
I used to dream about a place with windmills and canals every night for years when I was just starting school. I dreamed I was running through the canals and they were miniaturized. I’ve always wondered if there is a real city that looks like the one from my dreams. This one looks like it, but the one I dreamed of had a green, grassy hill next to it. I wonder if you’ve heard the poem “Harlem” by Langston Hughes, it’s my favorite:
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Namaste Dr. Jurisharma! 🌻
Sakura, now that is such a beautiful poem. Thanks for reading my post. I am happy you liked the place Haarlem because even I liked it so much, it’s old European charm. But, there are no hills here. Hope, you find your place of dreams soon. Stay Blessed 🙏
Wonderful pics!
Thank you so much 😊
Welcome!
I had no idea Harlem comes from Dutch! You’re right, though. It makes perfect sense when you remember the history of New Amsterdam. I wonder what other cities have Dutch names that I’ve taken as “American” all these years.
Yes, that’s true. Thank you so much for reading 😊
